What to know
- What it is
- A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's bpf and sockmap modules allows an attacker to cause an out-of-bounds memcpy by crafting a len value that wraps to a small value, leading to an undersized allocation. This could potentially allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code.

Story map
At a glance
Canonical Ubuntu Linux: Red, act today. A vulnerability exists in NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source when a map directive uses regex matching and the root directive or access log format references the map's regex capture variables before referencing the map output variable. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted HTTP requests, causing a heap buffer overflow in the NGINX worker process leading to a restart, or potential…

Original description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf, sockmap: reject overflowing copy + len in bpf_msg_push_data() When the scatterlist ring is full or nearly full, bpf_msg_push_data() enters a copy fallback path and computes copy + len for the page allocation size. Since len comes from BPF with arg3_type = ARG_ANYTHING and both are u32, a crafted len can wrap the sum to a small value, causing an undersized allocation followed by an out-of-bounds memcpy.
